January 2019 Writing Report

Are you off to a good start this year? Whether you accomplished big wins or you are starting small, go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back.

January 2019 has me off to a good start. I didn’t reach all my goals, but I am happy with my progress. To some, it may look like I didn’t do much. But for me, my small and simple strides are very significant. For me, it is progress. And it is always better than nothing. I am proud of what I accomplished this month.

What did you accomplish?

Summary of My Month

This month, I really focused on consistency. My goal was to write 5 days a week, and although I didn’t hit the goal every week, I was really close! During January I only missed 5 days that I had planned to write. For me, that is huge progress and definitely a win. I was pretty busy with some other projects, but I was still able to work on my WIP for 3 hours and 5 minutes this month.

The first week of the month, I wrote 256 words over the course of 3 days.

The second week of the month, I wrote 550 words over the course of 5 days.

The third week of the month, I wrote 362 words over the course of 3 days.

The fourth week of the month, I wrote 665 words over the course of 4 days.

The last week of the month, I wrote 421 words over the course of 4 days.

There were a few days that I just wasn’t able to write. A few I told myself I was “too tired” and chose to watch a show instead. And some of the days, I made the conscious decision not to write at all and spent my time with my family and doing housework.

I made some awesome progress on my novel. I’ve revised a few chapters and added some necessary detail to a troublesome scene. It will help with character development and it moves the story along much better. I’m really happy with what I was able to accomplish.

Thoughts and Goals

I want to work a little bit longer next month. Maybe five hours. I know it’s a small number for an entire month, but it’s consistent progress. And if this is what works, I’ve got to go for it. Three hours or five hours a month is a lot better than none. Lots of writers spend that much time each week, but I’m not in a place where I can do that right now. So I’m doing what works for me, and I hope you will do what works for you!
