Why You Should Create a Writing Routine

You might think you already have a routine. And you definitely do. Whatever you currently do before you write, while you write, and after you write is all part of your routine. But if you haven’t sat down and consciously thought about your routine then you are missing a big step.

It’s one thing to have a routine and another to have one that you have actively chosen. Putting a little bit of thought and time into your routine will help you create a writing routine that actually works. A little experimentation will help you discover new and potentially improved aspects that you want to add to your routine. It can also help you eliminate what doesn’t work.

So take some time to intentionally create your writing routine rather than letting your writing routine create itself.

Ideas to Create Your Writing Routine

  1. Write with Pen and Paper

Put the computer away and try writing with pen and paper.

  1. Read Before You Write

Read your favorite book or a book about writing.

  1. Write with Music

Create a playlist and write to your favorite tunes.
